The editor may be guided by the journal’s editorial policies and legal requirements related to copyright, plagiarism, libel, and research ethics. The editor may also consult other editors or reviewers before making a final decision.
Fair Play
Editors evaluate submitted manuscripts based on their academic and intellectual content without discrimination based on the authors’ race, gender, religion, ethnicity, citizenship, political views, institutional affiliation, or other personal backgrounds.
Confidentiality
Editors and editorial staff must keep all submitted manuscripts confidential. Information about a submitted manuscript must not be disclosed to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Editors must not use unpublished materials or information disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research or personal advantage without written permission from the author. Editors must also avoid handling manuscripts that may involve conflicts of interest.
Duties of Reviewers
Contribution to Editorial Decisions
Peer review assists editors in making editorial decisions and helps authors improve the quality of their manuscripts. Reviewers are expected to provide constructive, objective, and relevant comments.
Promptness
Reviewers who feel unqualified to review a manuscript or are unable to complete the review within the required time should immediately inform the editor and withdraw from the review process.
Confidentiality
Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not share, discuss, or disclose the manuscript to others without permission from the editor.
Standards of Objectivity
Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their views clearly and support their comments with logical arguments or relevant references.
Acknowledgement of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant published works that have not been cited by the authors. Reviewers should also inform the editor if they find substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under review and any other published work.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Reviewers must not use information or ideas obtained through the peer-review process for personal advantage. Reviewers should decline to review manuscripts if they have conflicts of interest related to the authors, institutions, research topics, funding sources, or other related parties.
Duties of Authors
Reporting Standards
Authors should present an accurate and objective report of their research. The manuscript should contain sufficient detail, data, analysis, and references to allow others to understand, verify, and, where possible, replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements are unethical and unacceptable.
Data Access and Retention
Authors may be asked to provide raw data related to the manuscript for editorial review. Authors should be prepared to retain their research data for a reasonable period after publication and provide access to such data when necessary and appropriate.
Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that their manuscript is original. Any work, ideas, data, or words taken from other sources must be properly cited or quoted. Plagiarism in any form is considered unethical publishing behavior and is not acceptable.
Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication
Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal at the same time. Authors should also not publish manuscripts that describe essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Concurrent submission and duplicate publication are unethical and unacceptable.
Acknowledgement of Sources
Authors must properly acknowledge the work of others. Publications that have influenced the research should be cited appropriately. Authors should ensure that all references are relevant, accurate, and complete.
Authorship of the Paper
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, analysis, or interpretation of the research. All individuals who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors.
The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that all appropriate co-authors are included, that no inappropriate co-authors are listed, and that all co-authors have read and approved the final version of the manuscript before submission.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
All authors should disclose any financial, institutional, personal, or other conflicts of interest that may influence the results or interpretation of the manuscript. All sources of financial support or research funding should also be disclosed.
